Our history
Community celebrations, local outreach and public representation: milestones from OPWC’s work.
Naeem Naqshbandi launched OPWC in London on 12 June 2015. Early activities included Independence Day and Defence Day celebrations, NADRA outreach in Newcastle and a meeting with British Red Cross and Pakistan Red Crescent representatives.
An OPWC delegation met Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti in London. The same year, OPWC appointed Waqas Sohail as organiser of its Professional Forum in East London.
OPWC brought the community together for a Defence Day gathering on 25 October, attended by the Pakistan High Commissioner and community representatives.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, OPWC helped distribute food packages to NHS, Police and Royal Mail key workers on behalf of the Pakistan High Commission.
OPWC worked with the Pakistan High Commission and the local mosque committee to bring NADRA services closer to the community.
On 2 January, OPWC brought councillors, lawyers and community leaders together with representatives of OPF, Punjab OPC and the Pakistan High Commission.
OPF recognised OPWC’s eleven years of service to overseas Pakistanis. Chairman Naeem Naqshbandi continued representations on passport access and joined civic leaders at the Pakistan High Commission in London to discuss diaspora welfare and community ties.
